The future of public service provision was under the microscope at a Chamber of Commerce debate held in the Scottish Parliament on Monday 8th February. The main political parties stepped up to set out how they would tackle the high and increasingly regarded as unsustainable levels of public spending in Scotland. Topics included local government reorganisation, the future of public sector pensions and alternative models of service delivery.
The debate, which was chaired by Donald Anderson, Director of PPS Scotland, included contributions from three Scottish Parliamentary spokespersons for Finance and Sustainable Growth; Andy Kerr, Labour; Derek Brownlee, Conservative and Jeremy Purvis, Liberal Democrat.
